The NAD received a request from the office of President Obama. The Obama administration wants to learn more about the people in our community – people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
We see news reports about people who are becoming unemployed and people having difficulty finding a job, paying their bills, and keeping their homes. We are all concerned because the economy has “ripple effects” on our state government budgets, businesses, communities, and our lives. Some people have accepted reduced work hours or reduced pay so more people can remain employed. Many people have been concerned they might lose their jobs.
Recently, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This “economic recovery plan” will use $787 billion dollars to help states maintain education and health care services, create jobs, reduce taxes, and stimulate the economy. The economic recovery plan may help some companies to hire more people, some businesses to rehire people who were laid off, and some programs to decide to keep all of their employees.
How has the economic crisis affected you? Are you concerned you will lose your job because of the economic crisis? Did you lose your job because of the economic crisis?
The Obama administration wants to know if the economic recovery plan is helping people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Now with the economic recovery plan starting, have things changed? Are you less concerned, more concerned, or do have the same concern about losing your job? If you lost your job because of the economic crisis, did you find a new job or get your old job back?
Help the Obama administration help you. Submit a comment here, or contact the NAD at www.nad.org/contactus. Tell us if you lost your job because of the economic crisis. Tell us if you found a job or got your job back because of the economic recovery plan.
