Interpreting Training Preparation Program

Making a Career with the Deaf Community

Philosophy:
DAS' Interpreting Training Preparation Program offers an all inclusive experience within a dynamic team of sign language educators committed to our current and future students in providing a deeper understanding of visual language, visual learning approach globally adopted by Gallaudet University. 

Community involvement, class attendance and Deaf guest presenters are offered as inclusive part of the curriculum.  ITPP maintains a roster list of all-Deaf instructors involved in a progressive approach to ASL fluency through the analysis of hand-face-body connectivity, grammar and vocabulary building with dialogue practice.  Deaf studies is offered in addition to studying the linguistic structure in response to political, cultural and social roots of the Deaf.

Criteria for Advancement:
You do not need to have any sign language experience to begin the preparation program.  

However if you meet one or more of the following criteria:

- 3 years or longer with sign language experience
- Completed Level 3 of the Vista Signing Naturally Curriculum
- Passed the minimum competency screening exam provided by DAS
- Developed a specialized interest in advancing to a N.I.C. status

Upon c
ompletion of the preparation program, you will be credited to apply for the Interpreting Training Program (ITP).

Schedule:
ITPP classes are typically held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:30p to 9:00p and will run from September 2010 through August 2011.  

Open enrollment begins again in May 2011.
